My pencil line drawing skills benefited under the tuition of Harry Sutcliffe during the life drawing studies done as a student at Manchester Polytechnic as it then was. As an art teacher this equipped me with an ability to draw with speed and spontaneity whilst maintaining accuracy. However I’ve now gone many years without practicing my drawing.
In 1997 I did a set of twelve pencil drawings of Walkden and Worsley, including the two below: Walkden bandstand and Roe Green, Worsley.

The Goshawk, below, in coloured pencil, was copied from the British Book of Birds, illustrated by Terrence Lambert.

Below: This building, formerly a lodge, is literally in the middle of Worsley woods. The same woods are home to a larger black and white building called the Aviary, which overlooks the Old Warke Dam.

The small earthenware pot is one of several I drew from a museum. I love the forms and the proportion of these ancient vessels.
